Adequate hand washing reduces the transmission of upper respiratory infections, including flu, by 47 percent. Wash your hands often. Start with warm or hot water. Vigorously rub hands together with soap and water for 10-15 seconds. Rinse the soap from your hands. If soap and water are not available, use an alcohol-based product. Dry hands completely. If using a paper towel, dispose of paper towel. When sneezing or coughing, use a tissue, cloth or upper sleeve -- not your hands. Source: Centers for Disease Control (CDC) |
